The talent that is Mr Tom Bancroft has had a character mentor contest running on twitter and Deviant Art link so i had a go at it for fun something to practise my cartoon and character skills on  . not sure i can enter it but its better then not trying.

Jowy Shenanigans 23/6/12

been quite the last two days on this brief sorry. Here is the polished line art for the first competition illustration as it stands. most likely changes will happen now I am on to the next phase of the work.

I am using as I do all of my digital art Photoshop CS3 using my wacom tablet, which I greatly enjoy (great for sketching and junk)

Today I started the tonal stage i prefer this method because I can work out more clearly where the light and dark parts are. Going to try and apply very dramatic lighting and shading. I am thinking of a Todd Schorr finish to the whole thing (if you do not know who he is Google him please)

Its amazing how dynamic cartoons can look after a little bit of shadow?

Hey again continuing with the competition brief today and finalizing the digital line art on the first sketch I did. I changed quite a lot on the anime character (her pose seemed odd really still needs refining)  each character is to represent a different age and group without being over stereotypical.  

I started the rough digital line art on the second sketch as well but I have a

dilemma with this particular one because I want to add a crazy back ground that acts as a metaphor for these pieces but I am not entirely sure if i should leave it in or .

What do you think?

Some digital tonal studies from some recent metro papers 

I find newspapers to have a huge catalog of poses and expressions so i tend to collect a lot of them 

going to Try and make this a daily thing =D

There’s been this competition brief that the university has handed out to certain people and I am going to have a go at it I will not mention the client or purpose of the 2 pieces until I have finished them and inked it in digitally on my Wacom tablet (also I am not sure if I am even allowed to talk about it)   

but New Work  joy....
