Hello it's Been a very long time since i posted. But I am back with a fresh mindset for the blog. From now on I am going to be posting anything that relates to my work wether its original or fanwork it all makes me who I am as a creative.

Wow i have not done any Illustration Friday pieces in a while. But starting this week i want to make it a regular thing no matter what the quality is. for the time being Its more about the visual ideas i imagine from the words rather then creating stunning finished illustrations.

Initial character sketches  

A whole lot of Jowybeans World to start 014 off 5/1/14

Starting off the new year with some updated art and concepts for my own characters and the world they live in

i had a very relaxing Christmas got plenty of great graphic novels to read and lots of new art materials i can practice as well not as many commissions but it was the holiday season anyway.

 One of the things I asked from Santa this year was brand new marker pens of different makes like letraset and Primsa .

Only recently I have been using my older marker pens (I have had for years ^^;) in some of my illustrations and would like to continually use traditional media like this to give me much more Variety in the future of my work and freelance business.

Boxing Day I decided to experiment with these new pens looking at tone and merging colours together.

 There’s plenty room for improvements in the markers finish and mark making but it’s a good start.

How I love when my Internet connection goes out without any warning so I cannot post on time when I want to. 

Before I rant on about my snail paced Internet let me first explain about this little speed painting

. 

Essentially 2013 was the year where I started to explore my own world and characters again, even in a web comicjowybean.deviantart.com/art/JO… . I mostly did sketches and character sheets. But this year I eagerly want to create some actual colored pieces finished preferably to showcase my world in all its beauty and strangeness. 

 This is a Vista idea overlooking the downtown area  from the south for one of the major cities in jowybeans Universe (and where Jowy lives) Ramsusville 

 The structure to the left of the scene is the Central Transport Station where you can get the cities underground, bus, plane, or dragon to work. Lol 

 Visually the city will be uh …… lets say it will be based off a lot of real life cities architecturally I love like Tokyo , New York, Chicago, Birmingham UK (my city), London, Quebec, Paris, Cairo, Ronda, almost any where in the world there will be a section of Ramsusville dedicated to it. Because Architecture is a big influence in the way I design my environments. 

oh Did I mention there would be a giant bath on top of a mountain for giants to bathe in as a tourist attraction. And an entire town based on the black and white era of animation and cinema called Little Nicky. And that’s not the weirder part I will save that for much later on. 

   

The best and easiest way to describe the concept for Super Cream Pie Robot Space Pirate Guy is if you mashed up Darkwing Duck, Freakazoid, Hong Kong Phooey and Otaku animes in to one crazy cartoon. :? I know makes no sense but get used to that when you step in to my world there’s never any rhythm or reason just silly fun and strangeness . :crazy:

 I imagine my world being like a Tiny Toons and the Animaniacs cartoon where there is a huge cast of interesting characters who all exist in the same universe/environment but have their own separate stories and adventures but will clash with each other eventually. ;)

I drew most of these characters last year and gave them names so this is a redesign of that but there are some new additions to the team so lets get started. 

 Description

 Super Cream Pie Robot Space Pirate Guy (SCP)

SCP was born with his brain backwards so his mindset and personality are competently cookcoo (his Father was actually a space pirate and robot so there is a relation to his attire). Now as an adult he is a wannabe superhero of some sorts living a double life of luxury in ramsusville as the CEO of a successful spoons company. His special weapons are custard pies and bazooka yoyos. He wears under wear under his nappy because he has some ounce of dignity left. 

Eugene

Eugene is a rhino/raccoon hybrid and SCPS lifelong pet and assistant. As you could imagine his very smart but communicates by signs (A humorous reference to the panda in Ranma ½) he tends to get his master out of trouble as well (Hong Kong Phooey style) =D 

Prince Odd Ball

Prince Oddball is SCPs half brother and friend who is a coward at the best of times. His powers are creating clockwork monkeys that drop bouncy bombs. 

Scales and Jenny Frost

Scales and Jenny: are two sisters and gifted elemental magical girls. Scales is very bubbly and the embodiment of cute. She can use her powers to summon ocean creatures and bring entire waves out of nowhere. Jenny is the polar opposite she’s rude mischievous and cause chaos when she feels like it by creating ice monsters and glaciers. The sisters tend to clash with each other at school and home and SCP has full responsibility of them as their uncle. 

Oh yeah This is the sort of art i have always wanted to show my OCs in but its always being about patience and time with me. But yesterday i said NO i want to have something finished or half decent to show my characters in their best light after 5 hours this is the result i came out with

Marvin and R.A.T 

Marvin (the rabbit with the antlers) is a part of the jowyverses equivalent of the FBI and works alongside SCP and other heroes to stop the onslaught of crime and terror in ransusville and beyond. His a technical wizard having built his own robot and pet R.A.T (Rapid. Assault, Terminator) that assists him in his secret missions. He doubles as a yoda type character training wannabe hero’s for battles. Melvin and R.A.T have a strong Friendship that keeps them together even in the direst of situations.

Oh and that pie man in the background well you remember inspector Gadgets boss well his that character XD. :rofl:

The Toast kingdom is a fairly new idea I came up with last year.

Its Inspired by the ancient Egyptians and knaaren from Rayman 3 :hug:.

Queen Maple (her name for now) is the powerful monarch and dictator of the ancient that make the worlds toast as part of their economy .No surprise she is a villain of SCP as her plans are always foiled by him (or his friends at least). On top of her cruel rule she is madly in love with the king and listens to his advice even if he is just an

old jam jar. 

We return to the Jowyverse once again with a coloured sketch of jowy and my three other main characters Max bean Hoilnder Sammy wolf and Line (Jowys pet). Walking back from their school thats built on a giant hill in the shape of well.... a left hand hence the pun in the school sign :roll:

I have very little story of right now :( but i will be working on that during free time from commissions. B-)

I started drawing some of these characters again at the start of the year and then decided to redesign them and their zany nation this week, Its appropriately called Play. Its split in to two different kingdoms the PlayLand Kingdom, A fun happy carefree haven for toys, fashion, food and music ruled over by the kind and brave Princess Larry Anne and her faithful friends and bodyguards Roy and Kiwi. The Iron Lands are a stake contrast as Its a hub for pollution crime evil robots and savage motorbike gangs ruled by the malicious scheming King Gunbody of guntopia.

General Grouch is one of the generals of the PL army as well as being a royal advisor to Princess L.A.

Missed Illustration Friday submission and tiny update

Hello everyone i wanted to do a quick post because i missed last weeks Illustration Friday submission which was on the theme of shadows 

this was going to be a dramatic contrasted illustration when i started.

Since last week i have started working longer hours at the graphic design job and doing brony commissions which have taken up a lot of my time so i may miss a few IF challenges to make my life that little bit more easy to manage otherwise i could end up burning myself out  before the end of the year and that would be a disaster.

So much to do in so little time.

Illustration Friday submission : Thanks Tails Bus

(heavy sigh) It saddens me a little when i have some really great visual ideas for finished pieces but due to life,work unexpected showcase events and the potential annoyance i lost a great sheet of observation studies. it never becomes the reality i see in my imagination. This is still in sketch mode i never got it done to a standard i am happy with. but i want to keep this content consistent each week even if it means sacrificing perfectionism  a little to keep these ideas flowing and going.

unexpected Jowy Shenanigans updates 17/11/13

This has come up at just the last minute and is going to make my week that little bit busier. My good old university BCU has invited me to a showcase-networking event on Tuesday where I could really spread the world of Jowybean around lol and exchange contacts with other businesses. There’s over 100 attendees going to it and some of us are getting a table so I need to prepare for it fast. I have my table booked but I need to gather together a proper portfolio for the event.

Crafty Muthas fair this Saturday coming (23^rd nov) I am still going to. I believe these two separate events could make or break my freelance business but this year has being mostly exploring and taking risks and so far it’s all paid off really well.

I usually do not show my super sketchy sketches because of my perfectionate mind but these are drawings based on my own characters who i have grown to adore and enjoy drawing more . Not as much as ponies but i am making space in my busy creative life to doodle them at least

Unlike my last few submissions the only connection to the theme would be the old man with a wind turbine for a head. I was going with the idea of motion and movement and used some of my favourite poses from the last few newspapers I have collected as reference 

 Never expect anybody to get my deep ideas just appreciate the quirkiness and experimentation in my style.

Illustration Friday Submission: Street Secret Unlocked

This Weeks theme is.... Secret

As a previous full time gamer (when i was a teenager) .Secrets in platform games were always a win in my books whether it was bonus points or just a new puzzle to tackle always kept me occupied for longer in the world i was playing Rayman was the first game series i saw this happening. 

Like last weeks and future submissions the image is a mixture of real life studies from different  media with my crazy zany juxtaposing imagination.

i hope to refine my digital painting skills in the future challenges i still have a very rough style when it comes to digital art usually.

Illustration Friday submission Saxy beast 31/10/13

This week’s theme was… Creatures

I had started to listen to a lot of Jazz at the start of last weekend and i wanted to incorporate that theme in to the piece somehow. It’s also a lot less refined then I would have liked it to be but that’s a sacrifice you have to make when you’re busy at real work.

The three young girls or sisters are copied from a newspaper I collect regularly. i tend to hold on to them  for great visual reference its a way to observe life while letting my crazy world blossom.

Illustration Friday submission: Fire Tangle Fighter

i also tried ponying up the theme as well. 

I had a crack at my old promarker pens for these piece (i used to use them for my university development when i was discovering the importance of value).  Now that i have found my voice or vision in my work I really do want to start learning about traditional media in a lot more depth. Its not going to be easy as I specialize in digital a lot. But I am willing to take that risk and move up a level in my career.

Jowy Shenanigans 19/10/13 big update

As my dad would sarcastically say “Hello you o,rrible lot” and welcome to another update on the world of Jowybean let me bring you up to speed with what’s happening in my busy consistent creative life.

Number one the job at the graphic Design sinage company UK Print and Media is going extremely well. So far no complaints at all, my boss Akeel (who I have become real good friends) with has been very firm with the tasks that need doing with in the week and i have found myself surprisingly enjoying the programs Indesign and Illustrator. Really makes you think about the level of professional quality in your work and art. Graphics is not something I have touched or paid attention too since college which was four years ago so it’s a nice breath of fresh air to be doing it again with a better mindset.

Next month there’s going to be a local 2-day handmade craft fair in my town called Crafty Muthas. Now the name obviously implies that its targeted at one particular audience (as there’s a lot of craft fairs in England that are similar to this). I emailed them a brief description about me and my products I was going to sell, my DA gallery links and talked about the whole MLP brony thing. Two days later they emailed back saying they had a space free on one of the two days for me which is cool I would personally like too do both days but the fair is very popular with creative mothers that its only right that it should be broken down in to two days to give all vendors a chance.

I am going to be bringing most of my work I brought to the showcase event I attended two months ago to Crafty Muthas. But since it’s near to Christmas I am going to be creating some new Xmas cards both pony and non-pony to sell there started work on two last week.

Third no shocker too some of you, still doing pony art and commissions its very additive fun. I am slowly getting a good income from this not as much as my real job of course but still all this money will go towards my planed trip to the US pony cons next year or Comic Con depends how productive I am in the next few months. Considering I have hardly touched any of GTA 5 in the last 4 weeks proves that laziness and boredom are becoming less coherent as they used to be.

I started livesteraming recently and I plan to do more in the coming weeks. My first experience was very positive, did not shut up for a whole three hours I love to talk sometimes folks if you know this blog you understand what I mean.

Because of all these shenanigans I have postponed the development on my Jowy web comic and Humanise.com, which I am a little disappointed to stop But I have to concentrate on the markets I am currently involved in to break into something then nothing. Please still support and check out the projects on my DA account we will return to them soon enough it’s not dead.

Plus I am making the effort with illustration Friday again so you can always see my crazy zany illustration style there.

   

I apologize if this comes off as egotistical and pride fall but I personally believe that I should get paid for my art from now on what ever type it is that’s why I do not accept any requests that much on DA its just very time consuming and I have to make a living off my talents at some point friends.

Wow this post has taken me literacy over half an hour to write I will bid you a fare well  and good day and let you enjoy a small galley of my recent art from last few weeks

 first week I helped Akeel design a welcome home banner for his cousins son who with his wife just had an adorable baby girl and were coming home from the hospital. One thing lead to another after I meet Akeels cousin and I ended up being commissioned to do a caricature of them both together with their baby from one photo. =D 

Stupidly I forgot their names but they loved it I herd so that’s the important thing.
