Bear in a place ending in Woods Jowy shenanigans 12/9/15

This may be a very local event  and only relate to those in the UK, But I am excited to be announcing this will be my first art exhibition and wanted to share the Flyer I designed with you. This is partly the reason why theres not being as much art uploaded on the blog in the last few weeks  because most of my attention and passion has been on this project and getting prepared for it in October.

The exhibition is going to be celebrating my hometown of Bearwood in history and art.
This will be also acting as a show case of my original work and for once a lot of it is traditional =D, and will be for sale.

sneek peek at one of the pieces

This is the blurb I wrote to sell the exhibition to my community facebook group.

Have you ever wondered, how did the Windsor cinema (Sandwell Snooker Club) play its role in spying on the germans in WW2?. Or what did Bearwood primary offer as classes at night in the late 18th century?. All these questions and more will be answered at the Bearwood Art with History exhibition this october from the 3rd to the 10th at Ooops - Artisan Gallery & Gifts. Local artist Joshua Whitehouse nicknamed Jowybean and local Historian Mary Bogfish invite you to explore the fascinating history of Bearwood and celebrate its iconic locations through a series of original artworks, that will be for sale .
Open day is on the oct 3rd 2-4 pm.

I am looking forward to this venture and Will be sharing photos and art from the event once its done.

If anybody in the UK is crazy enough to attend its on from the 3rd to the 10th of october  at Ooops Gallery. The location is on the flyer.

Jowys time at Ponycon UK 2014

back from UK ponycon2014.

It was a very relaxing and family friendly event. It was not as Brony centered which made a nice change. I did a lot of coloured OC commissions and sold a bit more of my old stock from Buck con  this year which is awesome.

samples of the coloured OC commissions I did

I also made some new contacts with some of the other artists there. All in All this was a better experience then Buck 2014 and i will be going next year for sure.
Heres some photos I snapped during the two days

Badges were very popular

This is another Brony artist / friend of mine Thomas or as he goes by online Misty Dash.  I meet him at my table at Buck a year ago but got to know him really well at his table this year. He even got awarded the best stall which is really cool considering this was his first time vendoring.

This was one of the best none Friendship is Magic cosplays at Ponycon UK Eille was also a vendor there (I do apologize if I got her name wrong). She is cosplaying Reeka one of the antagonists of the My Little Pony: The Movie from 1986 or as fans refer to it as the Smooze movie. honestly the bad guys are much more memorable and entertaining then the ponies are. Its worth watching just for the villains and their songs.

I did a pony commission for her as well.

Jowy pony shenaggins 5/10/14

I am going to be vendoring at another mlp convention next weekend called UK ponycon

After Buck 2014 i have been making changes to my work pattern by creating a brief for a fake month long project. each month I will challenge my skills as an illustrator in new interesting ways giving me a better chance of being seen by the creative industry to do freelance work for it. while still being involved in the Brony community i want to continue to do Freelancing and conventions.

Until next post LATERS :)

After Buck 2014 27/8/14

Hey everybody i have just recovered from the chaos filled weekend that was the UK Brony convention BUCK 2014.

I did rather well with my vendor table this year not as successful as last year . But I got to meet a lot of awesome fans, get a handful of commission to keep me busy for a while. And meet some of the quote "horse" famous people in the fandom.

One of the biggest highlights for me was getting to know the other vendors there on a personal level and exchange contacts with them. Mel from Geek Stitch who i was next too was super helpful at telling me about other conventions I could try selling my fan and original work to.

The times i did no vendoring I made silly signs to put on my table while I was away somebody wanted to buy this sketch XD.

I had a lot of interest but no one really could afford it. :(

On the sunday I offered to do coloured pony OC commissions for £10.
Here are some of the examples I had out on my table based on friends characters and the VIPs at BUCK.

Living Tombstone : well known musician

G. M. Berrow : Writer of the Friendship Is Magic Chapter Books

To conclude BUCK 2014 was a lot of fun. But i want to try some other conventions for next year as suggested by Geek Stitch.

  Until next post LATERS :)

Much needed Jowy Shenanigans update 10/3/14

Now I feel is a good time as any to tell you the current situation Jowybean is in.

Bad news: first is last week I left my full time illustration job that i had briefly mentioned in my last post. But it was not because of malicious reasons or that there had been any complaints made about me it was just that the work I was producing was not playing to my visual strengths or what the company were ideally after and the time I was taking on the projects was slowing down their schedule. they were extremely nice human beings and the boss did give me some contacts to get in touch with to find a better job closer to my dream job as a storyboard character/background and concept artist for the creative industry. I will not lie in saying that I am a little sad it ended so quickly (the pay was unbelievably good) I assumed I was going to be there for a good year or so but this is the brutal world of business I live in nobody has time to slow down.

So here I am monday and back to square one hunting for a new job and hoping to find one really soon. I already have contacted some old industry friends of mine for guidance.

Good news is with this free time I can get back on track with all the abandoned projects I put on hold like the MLP title cards http://jowybean.deviantart.com/gallery/40636445 and the ambitious graphic novel Humanised.com.http://jowybean.deviantart.com/gallery/43419780
Other important things to know regarding cons and stuff for the rest of the year

Sadly due to time and job hunting American pony cons look to be less likely this year.
On the other hoof BUCK 2014 you can bet your sweet flank I will be going there :headbang:  vendoring .With a whole lot of new prints postcards and lots of exclusives that you will not want to miss trust me there going to be big. ;)

the other trip I would love to do is to take a trip to Japan with the travel agency www.japanjourneys.co.uk. I am eager to go on their manga tour in august the trip would all be focused around the areas pop culture and anime of the nation. I so dearly love Japan =D  and will move there at some point in the future its a big long term goal of mine ^^;. I have become a bit of an Otaku over the last month and half watching a lot of different anime and documentaries on its history.

As I type this I have two cute Lucky Star figures of Kiagmi and Tsukasa In their winter uniforms sitting on my desk  so I am in the zone as it were with japan Plus I really enjoy the simplicity and fun of Lucky Star.

Now taking in account this trip is going to be 8 days before Buck I would be asking a lot of myself and my body to travel that far and back :faint:. but I feel its something I want to achieve this year getting to japan. though now i think about it america would be much cheaper.
Just have too see but BUCK 2014 is a EEYEP :woohoo:

what does the future hold for the blog well for now i am going to continue to upload illustration Friday pieces on here and once i start working on humanise.com i will be posting WIP and information on here.

if you want too see my really rough sketches my tumblr is the best place for that. i don,t really have a clear idea what i want to do with my blog. it been very much an experiment
I am in the process of creating an online Jowybean website to expose my art to more people and future clients online. that should be up in the next two months

Jowy Shenanigans 13/11/13 some new updates of sorts

I find myself getting up late on my days off from work because of how cold and damp its getting outside in the UK. I just want to stay in my bed for another 10 minutes but old man winter wind sends his cold air right up my back and wakes me up rudely.

About the Graphic design job……yeah… it may be temporary until Christmas and I do not want to put any information or twitter rants out there. Lets just say its been a good experience and I have improved on my design skills since I started there 8or 9 weeks ago. But come next year it would be best for me to find a better graphic design studio.

Big thing next Saturday

I am vendoring at the local craft fair Crafty Muthas Sat23rd in my local church. Preparation has been underway for the fair since last week all my prints and Xmas cards I designed have arrived and will be uploaded after the fair and yes some of them are pony related so stay tuned for those beauties. I am throwing in some BUCK prints and prints of my old art that got me started on the path to illustration). I have such an amazing story on how I got started as a young artist but I should save that for another day not enough energy to type it all out today lol also I am not a big head or Trixie lol.

little preview of the prints and cards i have reday for the fair the cards will be uploaded after or before the event have to see

Usually I would be going to the big comic con up in Leeds called Thought Bubble but to save time and money for my U.S con plans for next year. I am missing it this year a little sad :( about it obviously. But I have a bright creative future ahead: excited: and want to keep the distractions to a minimum if possible I still have not touched GTA 5 in weeks or caught up with my YouTube subscriptions. :nuu: :stupidme:

I started livestreaming recently and I plan to do more in the coming weeks. My first experience was very positive, did not shut up for a whole three hours I love to talk sometimes folks if you know this blog you understand what I mean.

Because of all these shenanigans I have postponed the development on my Jowy web comic and Humanise.com, which I am a little disappointed to stop But I have to concentrate on the markets I am currently involved in to break into something then nothing. Please still support and check out the projects on my DA account we will return to them soon enough it's not dead. :phew:
Plus I am making the effort with illustration Friday again so you can always see my  zany illustration style there.

have a cute pony

Since starting my job at UK Print and media i have wanted to get back in to the habit of studying from life aka my journey to work. And the metro newspapers as there are so many helpful interesting references to use for practising realism these are three of the studies i have done in the last eight weeks third one i am least satisfied with but live and learn as Crush 40 say XD (only some will get that joke)

Until next Post LATERS ; )
