After Buck 2014 27/8/14

Hey everybody i have just recovered from the chaos filled weekend that was the UK Brony convention BUCK 2014.

I did rather well with my vendor table this year not as successful as last year . But I got to meet a lot of awesome fans, get a handful of commission to keep me busy for a while. And meet some of the quote "horse" famous people in the fandom.

One of the biggest highlights for me was getting to know the other vendors there on a personal level and exchange contacts with them. Mel from Geek Stitch who i was next too was super helpful at telling me about other conventions I could try selling my fan and original work to.

The times i did no vendoring I made silly signs to put on my table while I was away somebody wanted to buy this sketch XD.

I had a lot of interest but no one really could afford it. :(

On the sunday I offered to do coloured pony OC commissions for £10.
Here are some of the examples I had out on my table based on friends characters and the VIPs at BUCK.

Living Tombstone : well known musician

G. M. Berrow : Writer of the Friendship Is Magic Chapter Books

To conclude BUCK 2014 was a lot of fun. But i want to try some other conventions for next year as suggested by Geek Stitch.

  Until next post LATERS :)

Jowy pony shenanigans 19/8/14 Buck con

This weekend I will be vendoring at Buck the UK's only Brony convention fort a second year in a row. I am most well known online for doing a lot of pony art. Specifically Title cards based on the episodes and will be selling prints of that series mostly along with A2 and A3 (limited addition) prints , postcards, phone cases, christmas cards badges and even original sketches.

looking forward to it. : )

Jowy Shenanigans 24/9/13

Hey everybody in blog land I have been a busy bee with pony commissions popping up every few days since Buck. And its occupied a lot of my free time, then the whole GTA 5 thing happened last Tuesday and I was gone for two and half days with breaks in between of course its worth the money in my opinion Rockstar you have done it again.

now I am back with a reason to update not just to rant.

lame joke i know

I started livesteraming recently and I plan to do more in the coming weeks. My first experience was very positive , did not shut up for a whole three hours I love to talk sometimes folks if you know this blog you understand what I mean.

Last Wednesday i attended a small showcase event run by a company called Sweda to show my art to other potential clients and networks and as you can see the local press took an interest in my art and Brony stuff.

I have applied for a possible full time job at a graphics and print company in Birmingham. Had my interview yesterday it went quite smoothly, despite my lack of commercial graphic design experience. The director seemed interested in using my artistic talents for some of his upcoming projects. If I get this job I will get some actual income.

In an ideal world I would love to make a living off my commissions and own illustration but I know the market constantly changes and you need to be realistic with your goals in today’s world folks.

I have fallen behind on illustration Friday’s submissions but I will make sure I get back on track with that.

Passion project Humanise.com graphic novel has stopped for a while but please still support and check out the project on my DA account we will return to it soon its not dead.

Ponies just on the brain

Until next Post LATERS ;)

Back from a Bucking good time at BUCK pony con 5/9/13 (horrible pun and title for the post i know)

An exclusive A3 digital painting i made that sold out at BUCK very british

 Howdy everyone

I am still recovering from the awesomeness that was BUCK pony con 2013 in Manchester's Bridgewater Hall two weeks ago. Goodness where do i begin you know i was tempted to just vblog about my experiences like i did in the old days when I was on YouTube I would rather not and talk about the highlights in brief detail. I have so many great memoires and people I meet to remember BUCK by. I am proud i stayed and survived for the entire thing from Friday nights Summer Sun Celebration (a rave music concert of fan favourite artists) to late Sunday nights closing ceremony which was entertaining to say the least.

Of course the big deal about this con and the reason I brought it up on this blog was because i was going to sell my pony art as a vendor and take commissions there. (no photos of table sorry). It went very well no complaining or issues with the organization of the venue. I never realized I had quite a fan base for my MLP title card series and most bronies recognized me from that I had couple hugs off them as well.

one of the most popular cards in my series

I did not sell out like I thought I initially would but I most certainly broke even with the money I made from this event, which for a first time vendor is incredible.

But the business side was not my biggest highlight it was meeting other bronies from across Europe and the U.S (was not just UK fans) and show casing my ability in drawing and sketching. It was like the old days when I was 9 and 10 selling my art in galleries and I would be demonstrating my talents in front of crowds.

I even managed to meet some of the VIPs at the con including Michelle Creber a talented young VA and singer on friendship is magic. Gave her a personal drawing I did as an early birthday present she loved it, So that was just the icing on the cake to what was a floorless convention. My patents were helpers on the two days and they were surprised by how humble and pleasant our fandom is they did so well with managing my table.

Only two downsides I can say that happened during the con.
I almost destroyed my phone when it feels out of my pocket by mistake at the Summer Sun Celebration.
My hotel toilet flushing mechanism fell off while I was away on Sunday.

Right now I am in the middle of a pony commission haul since I was taking a lot of requests from fans there. Lineart / sketches were done during the weekend others I have been working on at home because of the requirements of my tablet and Photoshop.

samples of the many commissions i have done in the last week and a half

if your a brony your get the inside jokes here ;)

It’s being a busy last week and a half but it’s been great practice for time management and balancing workload.

So much so that all my other passion projects have had to be put to one side for a while since I am making money off this venture and at the end of the day a creative has got to earn his income somehow folks. Look at the artists who draw and paint Marvel and DC characters for a living ponies could become pretty that for me if I keep going with the commissions a living .

Have no fear though the graphic novel project Humanise.com will still continue. I will try and post up a new submission for Illustration Friday each week to keep my crazy juxtaposing world of illustration going in my mind.

For now this really is just a phase I am going through and I am going to enjoy it as much as I can and not worry about tomorrow.

Until next post Laters :)

Jowy Shenanigans 21/4/13

photo of my working desk to make up for the late updates ^^;

Last week has been a feel good week so many happy things happened and I am going to talk about them now.

Two weeks ago I registered my sole trader name as Jowybean and received the printed versions of my new business cards and greeting cards that I have been designing for the last two months or so.
I planed to sell these pieces at the local shop in my woods for a reasonable price. Not only to show case my art but also to advertise the beauty and fun of the woods community trust to the general public. Wednesday morning I went in had my interview with the manger and left behind samples of the cards for them to show to the other staff and customers. They brought them so I technically in a long time got my first sale. Now all I can do for this project is sit back and wait and for the response from the sales and customers. If its popular then I am on to a winner if not I can try a different avenue to sell them.

Moo.com is where i got my cards and business cards printed very good service and prices well worth a look at.

I am doing multiple jobs right now but I am not allowed to show development of any of them due to the client’s wishes. This is a little annoying as theirs so much content to share from these commissions, but I have to respect the clients I am working for they are paying me after all.

Humanise.com graphic novel project

Started work on the rough pencils for the first few pages while my writer (Dad) bombarded me with a load of new ideas and jokes to put in to the final product I aim to have these pages done by august and also hope to get a bigger scanner so I can archive the process on the blog better.

Jowy comic

The Jowy comic has become a web comic and I started it last Thursday its been going smoothly so far and I will try with all my might to make it a coincident series. You can find it on DA but I might as well post it on here.

Last item on the agenda of today’s blog update is internships

I had inquired an internship at a local animation studio called Second homes. The director last Tuesday confirmed that my start date would be the 29th of this month, which is only a week away. It will be for four weeks so obviously there may not be that much updating on the blog. But I will do my best to keep you updated with development on everything I do I hope that this internship will actually mature my thinking and approach to the way I work. I think my style of work is sloppy at the best of times.

random doodles of last week excluding ponies

All other projects outside my blog can be found updated on my DA account I want to keep this blog limited to my personal and professional work then fanart stuff though my brony art is giving me a lot of traction.

Until next Update which WILL be soon LATERS  ;)

Jowy Shenanigans 13/4/13

one of the fastest Jowy doodles yet less then a minute to do

My heart has just not being in the right place last few weeks. Though I have done extremely well to catch up with my then ongoing paid jobs (that stay unnamed) outside the web, I have lost time and some penitence with my own ideas and work which has slowed my creativity done a little bit. And getting back in to cartoon, anime watching mode has not helped the matter either.

Its natural for any creative too feel this way especially when they’re gaining an audience and following for the projects they do. I get a little bit paranoid if I have not updated anything on the web after 3 days because it makes me look like I have a lazy attitude to my practise.

I feel I am returning to my senses and getting my mind back. To continue with the graphic novel projects and my illustrations.

Without any other long stupid delays lets begin with the updating.....

Moo.com is where i got my cards and business cards done very good service and prices

The first thing you need to know is i have registered my sole trader name  so Jowybean is mine now and forever. I have got some new business cards printed and my greeting card series I plan to sell at my local woods have been finished. I got these done in the last two weeks as next week will be the big moment to advertise this project to the woods trust too see if they would want to use the cartoons as a marketing tool to attract new visitors.

Second important thing to note is I may be having an internship at an animation company in my city next month, which will be very beneficial and helpful in understanding my industry and its contributors

I am doing a few new paid jobs right now, which all link to my chosen fields of illustration and animation so everything is ago but I cannot talk about them, yet.

Humanise.com graphic novel project

I have discussed in length with my writer (my Father) about what we must do and the first major step is to get an A3 scanner to make the task of editing and colouring easier then manually scanning in each section separately and getting bored. I know I have spoken about deadlines for projects before but I will work hard in my spare time to get pages done before August for the preview of the first comic.

Jowy comic development

The jowy comic is in a concept art development stage because I just want to be picky about details and characters in the story.

All other projects outside my blog can be found updated on my DA account I want to keep this blog limited to my professional work then fanart stuff though my brony art is giving me a lot of traction.

Until next Update which WILL be soon LATERS  ;)
