Missed Illustration Friday submission and tiny update

Hello everyone i wanted to do a quick post because i missed last weeks Illustration Friday submission which was on the theme of shadows

this was going to be a dramatic contrasted illustration when i started.

Since last week i have started working longer hours at the graphic design job and doing brony commissions which have taken up a lot of my time so i may miss a few IF challenges to make my life that little bit more easy to manage otherwise i could end up burning myself out  before the end of the year and that would be a disaster.

So much to do in so little time.

until next post LATERS :)

Illustration Friday submission : Thanks Tails Bus

(heavy sigh) It saddens me a little when i have some really great visual ideas for finished pieces but due to life, work unexpected showcase events and the potential annoyance i lost a great sheet of observation studies. it never becomes the reality i see in my imagination. This is still in sketch mode i never got it done to a standard i am happy with. but i want to keep this content consistent each week even if it means sacrificing perfectionism  a little to keep these ideas flowing and going.

This weeks theme was.....Tails (if you can tell)

i know have the crafty Muthas fair this weekend to look forward to wish me luck and i  will see you all LATERs in the next post ;).

Illustration Friday submission: Fire Tangle Fighter

My early submission to Illustration Friday

Theme this week Entangled

i also tried ponying up the theme as well.

I had a crack at my old promarker pens for these piece (i used to use them for my university development when i was discovering the importance of value).  Now that i have found my voice or vision in my work I really do want to start learning about traditional media in a lot more depth. Its not going to be easy as I specialize in digital a lot. But I am willing to take that risk and move up a level in my career.

Jowy Shenanigans 4/10/12

Well here we be again folks updating time and quite a bit of stuff has happened since last post but for once I think I will save myself a soapbox for next time. Just know I have been using my time for productive things, despite the use of a faulty certain Wacom tablet.

This weekend my sister is moving to York University and is leaving behind my family and home city Birmingham for three years. Obviously she will still come and visit us for Christmas and all that jazz but I felt I owed it to her to make her a special illustration before she leaves Saturday although I have to help her move as well.

Since i had no access to digital media i broke out my tonal pro markers for this i used my new skin tone set which I had not used yet. So today seemed like an appropriate time to try the suckers out.

PROCESS TIME GO GO GO

Come on grab your friends =D

I Added some subtle landmarks that are personal to her so she may
Remember our fair city better though i doubt she would forget anytime soon ^^;

Finishamondo

I like the overall illustration feel it captures her enthusiastic attitude and elements that are a part of her unique identity and that simile ^^.

anyhow until next post with more words Laters ;)

Jowy doodle Archives 2011-12

Share and Share alike  as they say ; )

Jowy Shenanigans 29/8/12

Again with the late updates. There’s been quite a bit happening to me in the last few weeks meet a lot of new people over Skype who are collaborating on a film but i want to keep it under warps for now since it is a fan project but still worth it I am lead art director on the project now so that’s a thing.

I always feel tried after writing out long descriptions or paragraphs about recent shenanigans. so i cheated for this post and copy pasted the YouTube description because it sums up this video perfectly

Coming out with new material is hard sometimes when posting

Brief history about this particular video. Visuals by Sound is a series I have done on and off in the last three years (I did a lot more videos in 2011) .The general goal of these videos was too show my creative process of thinking and drawing when I have music playing and what wonderful and surreal worlds materialize form these said songs.

I always have loved a good old cartoon title card intro like Mucha Lucha or Ren and Stimpy, not forgetting ending credit sequences with art and characters in the background. Put these elements together with my screenflow recording of my latest illustration in development and you got yourself an interesting experiment of two different things. That's what I think personally at least.

Unfortunately I only got two separate recordings form this illustration so the final outcome is a little more polished then the footage I have archived.

I want to eventually finish this illustration off in my spare time which i have a lot of.

anyhow Until next post LATERS ;)

Jowy Shenanigans 18/7/12

All right we are back here again after a couple days away from posting anything I will be brunt with you all I have had a lazy mind in the recent weeks after leaving university. Found it hard to stay away from creative mode on Minecraft, fan art and YouTube channels fall under this category as well. I need to keep my mind and imagination active during this slow period until I find a suitable job linked some how to my practice. This is not rocket science I can do it but I have personally found out that I need to be really invested in my own ideas and characters to truly make them shine and sparkle. That’s why there’s not a lot of JOWY stuff on my DA account at the moment , which is quite sad honestly. But I call this a phase I am going though like in the early days when I started out on online.

I sent off my CV to a local animation company this week they already responded back. They would keep in touch with me as they like my work, which is showing promise. Soapbox/rant aside lets get to the core of this post.

Another anonymous person (don’t want it mention names) came forward three days ago with a commission for a married couple Tony and Carla who are youth preachers in a church but they are moving on. The client wanted a portrait as token of thanks to them. They wanted it done digitally like I have done with all my recent illustration work and preaching was the most important element that needed be illustrated in it.

1st day

I had to gather photo references from their facebooks to make it as close to the couple as possible obviously duh no caricatures here.

OH BOYYYYY i could already tell i was going to fun with this commission before i started

2nd day

I still enjoy doing the value tonal thing its educating me a lot more on how light works in different directions. And how dark shadows can be depending on the light scoure, space and time.

I actually created a light source that would be coming from the back of the figures to give the illusion of a projector

Carla was surprisingly easy to capture tony gave me a few problems mostly because of the angle of his head and his mouth

The picture also had to show some of the youth of the church but as silhouettes.

Carla was surprisingly easy to capture tony gave me a few problems mostly because of the angle of his head and his mouth

Day 3

Showed it to my mom, as she knew these people gave me a citric about his hands and mellow expressionhe did look rather relaxed lol.

My my we need to make you simile again

"Will this trim suit you fine sir"

One last visual was added and that was the name of a youth Christian camp/event called Ignite that the couple went to or promoted (not sure which)

Again with the overlaying of the colour and the brown suit and the blue curtains

The client unfortunately came back sooner then I expected but was very happy with the result as it was so there was no real reason to complain Tony and Carla loved it.

Sweet Another satisfied customer.

FINALE

I don’t mean to make these blog posts long I just feel like I am leaning a lot more about my digital skills and observation from doing pieces like this hopefully I start doing some paid work very soon because pieces like this give me hope for my future even on the laziest of days

Any how until next Post Laters
