Illustration Friday Prehistoric submission 14/2/14
Wow i have not done any Illustration Friday pieces in a while. But starting this week i want to make it a regular thing no matter what the quality is. for the time being Its more about the visual ideas i imagine from the words rather then creating stunning finished illustrations.
not enough time
This weeks theme was ...prehistoric

2014 Plans and updates its Jowy Shenanigans for the 21/12/13
Christmas Is approaching ever faster guys: faint: and I tend to slow
down a little to take it nice and easy before I get back in too my busy
routine. Last weekends journal was
pointless if I am honest but enough about the past lets look forward to the
future
Biggest Update of this
month I have finished my job for the holidays. The boss has been very pleasant to work with and the skills I have
gained in indesign and illustrator give my business more leeway in future
work.. I am going to research In to other creative job or opportunity so when I
have to leave the job I have another place to go
Its not going to be a cake walk and does mean spending a few hours looking online for paid work over the break but I am willing to sacrifice some of my much earned free time in order to achieve this goal and be generally more happy about professional working environments.
Its not going to be a cake walk and does mean spending a few hours looking online for paid work over the break but I am willing to sacrifice some of my much earned free time in order to achieve this goal and be generally more happy about professional working environments.
There’s going to be a lot of planning before the New Year kicks in as
well
The biggest things I want to aim for next year is to go to two or at
least one of the big brony conventions in the U.S. EVERFREE OR BRONYCON (maybe
even get to vendor there which would be awesome).
Other big goals on my list include
expanding the jowbean brand with joining sites like WLF welovefine and working
for IDW as I did do a comic cover that appeared in the art galley special of
MLP two months ago.
On top of this I want to return to my
own projects that I have put on hiatus since BUCKcon this year. One being the
ambitious graphic novel that my dads writing called Humanise.com and my Jowy
web comic that is in collab with a friend not on DA. this means that this blog will get used much more next year if i keep to my word.
I am aiming very high for 2014 folks
but I believe that with my unique diverse talent anything is possible now, even
animation. Got to keep going up not down.
have a very Merry Christmas and happy awesome new year
LATERS :)
u only had one

I am still here just over on tumblr and DA short update 14/12/13
Its been a good week
and a half since I last update on this blog which I apologise for but I recently
discovered the fun of tumblr and being uploading a lot of my roughs and
sketches to there as a sort of archive for my ideas pony and non pony related
of Crouse.
I am still in my
graphic design job, which has become a little bit more enjoyably but come New
Year or before then I am looking for a better-paid creative job
I should be thankful to the director at the
company for keeping me on for this
long but for the long-term of jowybean as a business I need to find a better-secured
position if I want to aim higher.
I still have a lot of
commissions on my DA to crack on with.
Christmas Is approaching
ever faster and I tend to slow down a little to take it nice and easy before I get
back in too my busy routine again. That’s why there’s been no Illustration
Friday or sketch dumps on here for this month because I am getting used to tumblr
and I want to be a lazy man.
That’s why I am ending
this post now before I yap on and end typing for another hour or something
checkout my sketch tumblr http://jowybean.tumblr.com/
If there’s not another
post before Christmas I wish you all a merry Christmas and a cheer to an
awesome new year which I have a feeling next year for Jowy will be awesome ....I CAN FEEL IT.

Illustration Friday submission : Thanks Tails Bus
(heavy sigh) It saddens me a little when i have some really great visual ideas for finished pieces but due to life, work unexpected showcase events and the potential annoyance i lost a great sheet of observation studies. it never becomes the reality i see in my imagination. This is still in sketch mode i never got it done to a standard i am happy with. but i want to keep this content consistent each week even if it means sacrificing perfectionism a little to keep these ideas flowing and going.
This weeks theme was.....Tails (if you can tell)
i know have the crafty Muthas fair this weekend to look forward to wish me luck and i will see you all LATERs in the next post ;).

unexpected Jowy Shenanigans updates 17/11/13
This has come up at
just the last minute and is going to make my week that little bit busier. My good
old university BCU has invited me to a showcase-networking event on Tuesday
where I could really spread the world of Jowybean around lol and exchange
contacts with other businesses. There’s over 100 attendees going to it and some
of us are getting a table so I need to prepare for it fast. I have my table
booked but I need to gather together a proper portfolio for the event.
Crafty Muthas fair
this Saturday coming (23rd nov) I am still going to. I believe these
two separate events could make or break my freelance business but this year has
being mostly exploring and taking risks and so far it’s all paid off really
well.
Sneak Peek at my new Illustration Friday submission that i plan to have done by wednesday
I usually do not show my super sketchy sketches because of my perfectionate mind but these are drawings based on my own characters who i have grown to adore and enjoy drawing more . Not as much as ponies but i am making space in my busy creative life to doodle them at least
until next Post LATERS ;)

Illustration Friday submission : Wind annoying Act
only managed to get a good rough tonal sketch done this time......... doh dart
This Weeks theme was Energy
Unlike my last few submissions the only connection
to the theme would be the old man with a wind turbine for a head. I was going
with the idea of motion and movement and used some of my favourite poses from
the last few newspapers I have collected as reference
Never expect anybody to get my deep ideas
just appreciate the quirkiness and experimentation in my style.

Illustration Friday submission Saxy beast 31/10/13
This
week’s theme was… Creatures
I
had started to listen to a lot of Jazz at the start of last weekend and i
wanted to incorporate that theme in to the piece somehow. It’s also a lot
less refined then I would have liked it to be but that’s a sacrifice you have
to make when you’re busy at real work.
The
three young girls or sisters are copied from a newspaper I collect regularly. i tend to hold on to them for great visual reference its a way to observe life
while letting my crazy world blossom.
also heres the sketch i did before the final speed painting above.
until next post LATERS folks ;)

Illustration Friday submission: Fire Tangle Fighter
My early submission to Illustration Friday
Theme this week Entangled
i also tried ponying up the theme as well.
I had a crack at my old promarker pens for these piece
(i used to use them for my university development when i was discovering the importance
of value). Now that i have found my voice or vision in my work I really
do want to start learning about traditional media in a lot more depth. Its not
going to be easy as I specialize in digital a lot. But I am willing to take
that risk and move up a level in my career.

Jowy Shenanigans 11/7/13
General commissions and art I have forgotten to post up on my blog from the last few months sorry I am lazy and forgetful sometimes.
Yesterday was like any other normal productive day for Jowy. The penciling for the next page of humanise.com is almost done and will be uploaded on here soon. I am also applying to a couple of art competitions this month to expose my work to the public and hopefully gain recognition with my quirky art style.
Recently I have been listening to a wide range of music while working on things. For me the band called Mr. Bungle has stood out from the bands I have listened to, with their crazy experimental Avant-garde funk metal jazz sound , which is, and unlike anything I have ever herd before . The last studio album they released called California has this one song on it that i would not stop playing yesterday called Sweet Charity its got an Hawaiian eerie tone to it. The title of the song intrigued me and after listening to it a couple more of times. In my quirky juxtapose style I choose to digitally illustrate it based purely on the title not the content of the song.
Its not finished yet This is just how far I got with it I just want to archive my process of my work from now on for you guys.
Check out Mr. bungle folks they are worth a listen to even if their music in the early days was unstructured and fusions of weird.
process
Recently I have wanted to study more from the real world in order to achieve this effect and decided today to do some value studies of two screenshots from two of my time-lapse travel videos. I wanted to see which elements I take time on and which ones I skip when studying from an existing reference (how close I can get to the real thing).
The boy with the stick is from one of the first videos I found within this weird genre of film and I find myself rewatching it almost every month its such an interesting look at a cities population I had no idea existed I believe its in the Caribbean.
I am not looking for an accurate photo realistic portrayal just a close enough interpretation of the light and tones in the images.
I have a recording of these studies been done on my YouTube channel so you can see the whole thing from start to finish with some music in the BG [link]

Clapping is contagious according to scientists in a recent article I read two days ago decided in my spare time to sketch out an idea for an illustration describing the article with my quirky diverse style obviously.
commissions
A couple approached
me a while back to create a card design depicting them as Lois Lane and
superman in a 60s inspired style hence the Roy Roy Lichtenstein dots and some
what dramatic worms eye view the caption had to be included in with the old
school comic style
how did i get there
Logo design for a new craft business the client wanted a female dragon with a lot of colour and a real look of feminine about the character it also had to warp around the company's title i choose the font.
