Illustration Friday Submission Hybrid bus stop

Yeah i am a liar i know i said i would update last weekend and that did not happen understand that i have been super busy with this event i am attending in two weeks time. i have had to spend a great deal of time prepping for it as it’s a big step for my career and the jowy brand all will be explained very soon.

Other annoying thing was I had a really awesome idea for this week’s illustration Friday submission but due to pressure and time limits I have cheaped out and submitted an older piece of mine that fits this week’s theme, which is....

HYBRID

Illustration Friday Submission jungle underpass

I have wanted to start submitting and joining in illustration Friday since I discovered it a year ago

IF is where you get a theme they set for you to design and you have to illustrate it in any way you want good news its open to any illustrator or artist.

I feel that this weekly challenge will keep me engaged in my wacky juxtaposing world more. Been quite satire with it last 2 months and i will explain the reasons why over the weekend there’s a lot to say which is nothing new on this blogs record

This week’s theme: JUNGLE

not my best effort i wanted to colour it but its a good start :)

Jowy Shenanigans 11/7/13

General commissions and art I have forgotten to post up on my blog from the last few months sorry I am lazy and forgetful sometimes.

Yesterday was like any other normal productive day for Jowy. The penciling for the next page of humanise.com is almost done  and will be uploaded on here soon. I am also applying to a couple of art competitions this month to expose my work to the public and hopefully gain recognition with my quirky art style.

Recently I have been listening to a wide range of music while working on things. For me the band called Mr. Bungle has stood out from the bands I have listened to, with their crazy experimental Avant-garde funk metal jazz sound  , which is, and unlike anything I have ever herd before . The last studio album they released called California  has this one song on it that i would not stop playing yesterday called Sweet Charity its got an Hawaiian eerie tone to it. The title of the song intrigued me and after listening to it a couple more of times. In my quirky juxtapose style I choose to digitally illustrate it based purely on the title not the content of the song.

Its not finished yet This is just how far I got with it I just want to archive my process of my work from now on for you guys.

Check out Mr. bungle folks they are worth a listen to even if their music in the early days was unstructured and fusions of weird.

process

Recently I have wanted to study more from the real world in order to achieve this effect  and decided today to do some value studies of two screenshots from two of my time-lapse travel videos. I wanted to see which elements I take time on and which ones I skip when studying from an existing reference  (how close I can get to the real thing).

The boy with the stick is from one of the first videos I found within this weird genre of film and I find myself rewatching it almost every month its such an interesting look at a cities population I had no idea existed I believe its in the Caribbean.

I am not looking for an accurate photo realistic portrayal just a close enough interpretation of the light and tones in the images.

I have a recording of these studies been done on my YouTube channel so you can see the whole thing from start to finish with some music in the BG

Clapping is contagious according to scientists in a recent article I read two days ago decided in my spare time to sketch out an idea for an illustration describing the article with my quirky diverse style obviously.

commissions

A couple approached me a while back to create a card design depicting them as Lois Lane and superman in a 60s inspired style hence the Roy Roy Lichtenstein dots and some what dramatic worms eye view the caption had to be included in with the old school comic style

how did i get there

Logo design for a new craft business the client wanted a female dragon with  a lot of colour and a real look of feminine about the character it also had to warp around the company's title i choose the font.

Humanise.com comic project update 26/6/13

Been able to get a couple more pages inked in and started work on the biggest eye candy of the first issue the giant double-paged spread introducing the viewers to the world of the Internet my style.

Humanise.com is an Epically ambitious comic/graphic novel of mine that is been written by my dad. and drawn by me

If you like what you see head over to my DA account to see more development of the series  and bigger scans of finished inked pages.

possibly The monster of all splash pages and illustrations i may ever have done.

The aim of the page is to cram as much internet culture , memes and general wackiness to establish the galaxy sized city of the web after million years when the story is set. My laptop is currently filled with screenshots and names of websites i came across from all spectrums of the World Wide Web.

page 8

the birds eye angle of the house was the most challenging aspect to this page.
lots of action to get you in to the story early

Humasnise.com update 17/6/13

Hello all I have decided from now on to spilt each project I do as a separate post so it does not get confusing and boring for me to write

we have a new logo

There have been many great strides made in the development of me and my dad’s ambitious graphic novel/ comic series Humanise.com (name may change).

We have written the full script for issue one and as you can see when you scroll down the page some actual finished pages. The Writer (Dad) has worked on issue threes story it’s getting very exciting. I am still not quite sure how many volumes or issues there will be for the first arc. That’s right there’s going to be multiple character arcs in the overall series. The good thing about coming away from development of H.C for a while was that with the collaboration powers of me and my dad (writer) we could throw out character and joke ideas to put in to the finished product so we can reach as many diverse internet groups out there.

I am no Internet expert but that’s the reason why I want to make this comic a success. Test both my visual and knowledge of a thing that makes my life so much easier and I sadly could not live without it.

third promo idea I put together today. I did some research in to the Internets history so you get educated while you look at the art for free as well. I know there are lot more founders of the Internet I just picked the three that looked the most important.

We have a plot symbios to get your taste buds watering a little.

1000 years ago earth is wiped out by war of neutral bombs. At this time the Internet, as we know it was been updated and had began to think independently. Now 1000 years later the Internet has transformed in to a virtual reality where severs websites and programs of all kinds have become living breathing beings connecting together to from a thriving metropolis. Our two main protagonists CADRA the normal farm girl working in the code fields and Mutt her pet dragon suddenly embark on an epic quest to find the code that could bring down the controlling powers of the big bosses Google Apple and many others. But what is this mysterious code?

Engaged yet..... I hope.... this should give you a better grasp on the story and universe we are building here

now heres some inked in pages and character designs to show you whats happened since last updated.

These two are actually pages that appear later on in issue one reason i have skipped ahead is the first four pages are going to big in your face splash pages detailing the world you are about to enter and i just want to cram as much in these pages as the start of the story will take pace in a rather mundane environment and will focus more on characters then wow look at that detail.

part one of my nightmare begins lol

The original thumbnails i did for this page from last year before the craziness began. We are spreading the action scenes over a few pages then squashing it in to a small format

Character Designs

our main cast decided as of now (more to add and design). Cadra and Mutt are the main characters we are focusing on in the story

These three have popped up in my sketchbook for H.COM time and time again the alien Han Solo dressed character is called  Kono

fairly new idea about Carda traveling with a group of interesting characters with their own unique back story

there you go this update should give you all the information you need to know about H.COM so far.
you can go to my DA account to see bigger scans of the inked in pages

until next Post LATERS :)

hello i feel i need to change the oil in my rig

not being much of Jowy stuff in last three weeks so i redesigned him a little in the hair department

Hello all its been a long time since I last updated this blooming blog my internship at this animation studio Second Home has been a wonderful and productive experience that I will not forget. Because of how much I have done for the director its still continuing this week and maybe the following week.

Now to be honest I had plenty of free time to do an update during the last four weeks. I just started to fell recently that I was treating my blog as a chore not actual work or enjoyment, I get  paranoid about how much information I should charm in to one update .That’s the reason why half my posts end up being longer because I want to get everything out in one post but obviously that can not work every time as you do not have the energy to type everything that comes in to your mind . I believe that maybe shorting the posts to specific projects from now on will get me less stressed and less confusing for viewers.

Right now theres only a couple of projects that are still ongoing that I can talk about  everything else is either client commissions or just not  ready to show yet.

i will get back on track with my blog and make it something worthwhile rather then homework.

All fan work and other jazz outside my blog can be found updated on my DA account
i am posting a lot more updates about my graphic novel project Humanise.com on there.

see you LATERS  ; )
